 Course Description: 

    This course provides the opportunity for outgoing nursing students to acquire knowledge and develop skills and attitudes necessary to assume the role of a Registered Nurse in the health care delivery system, with emphasis on delegation and supervision.    The faculty is committed to the student's successful completion of this course.  As this is designated as a “C” course, students will receive one combined grade that reflects an integration of the seminar and clinical components.  Grading is based on the established criteria for successful completion of various components of the course.  Please review this syllabus and feel free to contact your faculty   for clarification.  We wish you success in this course.               

Course Competencies/Objectives:

At the end of the course the student will:-

1.         Apply principles of leadership and management essential for professional nursing practice

2.         Apply principles of delegation and supervision essential for professional nursing practice

3.         Apply legal and professional principles essential for professional nursing practice

4.         Apply time management strategies in the delivery of effective nursing care

5.         Use effective strategies to implement change in the health care delivery system

6.        Use the steps in conflict resolution to solve problems which may arise in the work place.

7.        Communicate effectively with multicultural clients and their families and members of the health team

8.        Use critical thinking, decision making, creative thinking, problem solving skills in making judgments about client / patient care

9.        Practice within the ethical framework of professional nursing

10.      Demonstrate beginning skills in successful transitioning from student to a professional nurse.
