MAC 1147

PRECALCULUS ALGEBRA AND TRIGONOMETRY

MAC
1147 is a course that covers all topics discussed in the courses MAC 1140 (PreCalculus
Algebra) and MAC 1114 (Trigonometry).
We will review all about functions, the concept, domain, range, graphs,
even/odd, inverse functions. We will
introduce many elementary functions such as constant functions, linear,
quadratic, cubic, the general polynomial functions, rational functions,
exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric functions, inverse trigonometric
functions, piecewise functions, and the associated applications. Other topics will be discussed such as
solution to nonlinear inequalities, the Division Algorithm, the Remainder
Theorem, Factor Theorem, exponential/logarithmic equations, angles, radian
measure, degree measure, trigonometric identities, trigonometric equations, the
law of sines, the law of cosines, polar coordinates, vectors, the conic
sections, the summation notation, introduction to sequences and series, the
induction principle, properties of summations, the Binomial Theorem, and many
relevant applications. If time permits,
I would like to briefly introduce partial fraction decomposition.
