Educational Philosophy

Midwifery and teaching are similar in many ways...

The 'good midwife' knows that the birth is far more than the arrival of the infant.  She values the process and the role it plays in the empowerment of the woman who emerges as the "mother."

The midwife gently provides anticipatory guidance through the woman's transformation.  The process is an important as the information shared. The midwife's reward is to share in the mother's joy as she embraces her infant and as she realizes her own transformation.

The 'good teacher' knows that within each student there is a successful scholar preparing to turn the corner from student to professional...

She knows that the role of the teacher is to provide the anticipatory guidance to the student to facilitate the transition.  She values the process of self discovery and shares in the joy, when at the end of the journey, she welcomes a new colleague
