Module 1

The job search

In this module, you will learn about different strategies for the job search. Please review the content below:

Where to look:

1) The newspaper classifieds-  Bring a local newspaper to class and cut out the classifieds.  Find the job that best suits your needs and share with the class.  Also try the newspaper links, in this exercise to find your job. (Ex. 1.1) and (Ex. 1.2)

2) The internet-  Use the following links to job sites for your job search.  Find three jobs that best suit your needs. (Ex. 2.1), (Ex. 2.2), (Ex. 2.3), and (Ex. 2.4)

3) Help Wanted Signs-  These can be found in your local neighborhood or malls.  Find one sign and copy down the important and relevant information. (See signs in fig. 3.1)

4) Networking-  This strategy is very successful.  This involves talking to people you have a relationship with such as friends, family, or some other acquaintance.  Talk to someone you know and ask them how they got their job and the report your findings to the class. Look at some tips on networking in the following link. (Ex. 4.1)
