ANGEL Writing Lab, an online learning tool designed for students of English (for Academic Purposes) will be available to students,

faculty, and lab tutors in the Summer Semester of 2008. It will be used for web-enhanced learning and interaction in the following lab sections:

  1. Students will be able to access a set of online instructions to use this learning tool at home or at any campus computer facility or individual PCs available to them.
  2. A web page containing instructions showing how to use of ANGEL and the programs it contains will be available to students.
  3. Students will select 10 assignments in e-Writing, the English-learning course currently used by Interamerican Campus lab students, as well as other assignments to be completed in the students’ own time. These assignments will appear on the syllabus 6 ; sylabus 5 webpage.
  4. To complete their lab-originated assignments, students will be able to work in the Computer Courtyard, the Library, and the Open Lab Section (Room 1218) or their personal computers (PC). They will not be required to visit writing labs as long as they successfully complete their assigned online tasks.
  5. Instructors and students will be using internal ANGEL e-mail for interaction with the instructor concerning projects, assignments, and evaluations. All writing assigments will be placed in the Angel "Turnitin" box only. The assignments will not be sent to the intructors via regular e-mail. At scheduled times during the semester, the instructor and his/her students will interact in the chat room and/or message board sessions guided and monitored by the instructor. At these scheduled times, all students will be required to participate as a group and meet online posting requirements assigned by the course tutor. There will morning and evening sessions. For dates and times, please check the ANGEL (A New Global Environment for Learning) Calendar.
  6. Each eWriting post-test must have a score of 80%. Although grades and averages will be based on post-test results, students must complete pretests and exercises in all of the assigned lessons. Students will be assigned (a minimum of) fifteen (10) e-Writing lessons.
  7. A FINAL Test will be scheduled on the last week of classes; (please check the ANGEL calendar) students must take it in person. Their student ID will be required, and 55% of the final score will be calculated into the final grade.

The final scores will be averaged out.

A100-95% B 94-90% C89-85% of all the points collected during the semester.

eWriting final scores given upon the completion of all assigned e-Writing exercises will amount to 15% of the final grade. Participation

(internal e-mailing, chat rooms, message boards, etc.) will total 5% of the final grade.

The final written assignment (which will amount to 55% of the final grade) will be announced by instructors/tutors as the end of the

semester approaches (please check the Angel Calendar); instructors will set up a time during which students will come to the lab, present their picture ID cards, and work on the final assignment in the computer under proctor supervision.

Students will research and learn the rules for the use of the MLA and APA academic writing styles for term papers and use them as assigned

for this course. Students must ensure that their “pay for print” accounts are active, and that there is enough money in their accounts to pay for printouts. The assigned writing topic for the final test will be selected by a team of instructors and administered to the students upon their arrival.
