InterAmerican Campus ESL/Foreign Languages - Translation Interpretation Laboratories

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is designed for non-native speakers of English in Miami to learn all aspects of the language. Students wishing to study English for Academic Purposes are required to take a placement test and write a sample paragraph to assess language proficiency. Students are placed into one of six levels based on the results of the placement test. In each level there are classes in Speech/Listening, Reading, Writing, and Grammar. Accent Reduction courses are also available for students wishing to refine their English pronunciation.

In addition to the core classes, students at all levels are required to attend two tutoring laboratories. In the Speech Laboratory, students practice their audio-lingual skills. This facility has over 120 computer stations where students receive individualized attention focusing on listening comprehension, pronunciation, fluency, and general speaking skills. The Speech Lab also has programs which complement foreign language courses.

In the Writing Lab, students receive customized tutoring designed to refine the students? use of written communication. There are 35 stations where students have access to computerized educational programs in grammar, word processing, keyboarding skills, and test preparation.
