    EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

My teaching style is interactive lecture.  I try to make it clear that we, together, are trying to answer difficult philosophical questions.  I also make it clear on the first day that I expect students’ participation so that we can have a conversation together instead of me talking the whole time.  I try to relate the material to current events, or use examples from popular culture to explain ideas.  I assess students through open note in-class writing assignments concerning the reading for that class period.  These assessments are unannounced, so students are more motivated to read carefully and take notes.  I also let them know that I value their ideas concerning my own work.  So, when it’s applicable to the course material, I will discuss some of my own views about topics and ask them to evaluate my arguments.  I find that students usually get into these discussions much more because they feel like they are a part of the current philosophical debate and I take their contributions seriously.

    INTERESTS

I LOVE sports (watching and playing)- especially baseball, tennis, and college football.  My free time is dedicated to watching my beloved St. Louis Cardinals (10 TIME WORLD CHAMPIONS, in case you didn't know), exercising, wine tasting, relaxing poolside or at the beach, and cooking.  I also dedicate a lot of my time to watching worthless television programming like "Days Of Our Lives" and bad reality tv.
