  Biography
I am a native of Miami, FL.  In 1994, I obtained my B.S. in chemistry from Barry University.  While at Barry, I was a MARC scholar and conducted research under the guidance of Dr. George Fisher.  My undergraduate research was aimed at the analysis of DMSO-racemized amino acids.  While an undergraduate student, I spent the summer of 1993 conducting research at the University of California, Berkeley, in the laboratory of Dr. Paul Bartlett.  My research at Berkeley was aimed at synthesizing acrylate analogs of amino acids.  In August, 1994, I was awarded a Board of Reagents Fellowship at Louisiana State University.  I conducted my dissertation research at LSU in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Limbach.  My research at LSU was the development of mass spectrometric protocols for identifying modifications in oligonucleotides and nucleic acids.  I received my Ph.D. in May, 1999.  After my time at LSU, I began postdoctoral research at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick J. Walsh.  My postdoctoral research was the analysis of nitrogen metabolic products in the Gulf toadfish.  I began to teach at MDC as an adjunct in the Fall 2002 semester, and was hired as a fulltime faculty member in January 2003.  As of July 2007, I am chairing the Department of Natural and Social Sciences at the InterAmerican Campus.  I continue to expand my education, and am currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration at Florida International University.  My other fulltime employment is as a mom and wife.
