GRADES

A = score of “4” on rubric  = excellent (3.6 - 4.0)

B = score of “3” on rubric = above average (3.5 - 2.7)

C = score of “2” on rubric = average (2.6 - 2.0)

D = score of “1” on rubric = below average, non passing (1.9 -1.0)

F = score of “0” on rubric = unacceptable, non passing (less than 1)

  1. You must receive a “C” which equals an average score of “2” to pass this course.  All assignments will receive a letter grade and the average grade shall be your final grade for the course. Please read the Rubric Sheet for a specific description of each score.
  2. All essays must be typed, double spaced, 12 font, one inch margins on all sides unless otherwise stated on the course outline sheet.  You must type your name, date, reference number and assignment number on the upper right hand corner of the first page.  (Please note Assignment #2 and #5 are handwritten in class)
  3. No make ups (no exceptions).    I lower your score one grade for each day you submit your assignment late.
  4. Failure to submit an assignment or failure to participate in an assignment shall result in a score of “0” and a letter grade of “F” for that assignment.
  5. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY   Plagiarism is a serious offense.  The minimum penalty is an “F” on the assignment, and the maximum penalty can include failure in the course and suspension from the college.

RECOMMENDATIONS

To complete this course successfully, I recommend you dedicate a minimum of 3 hours a week outside of class.  Don’t procrastinate.  Plan your schedule now.  Your assignments include reading essays, articles and a book of your choice.  In addition, you will receive take home papers that must be completed by a specific due date, and you will participate in a few group projects, so you need to schedule time outside of class to meet with your group members.   If you do not have access to a computer, you also need to schedule time at the Computer Courtyard or at your local library.

If you have questions or concerns early in the semester or later on in the term, do not hesitate to ask me.  Stop by my office during my office hours, or send me an email or a phone message.  Whatever you do, do not “assume” or “guess” your way through this course.  I welcome questions and confusion, for as Michael J Gelb once said, “Confusion is the welcome mat at the door of creativity.”

Do not allow your fear to keep you from accomplishing great things!
