The purpose of this project is to examine the positive and negative aspects of using animals for biochemical research. After researching the pros and cons of the issue, the students will participate in a forum.  In the forum students will take part in various activities, such as online discussions and polls.

Students will explore current practices, regulations, ethical issues, and alternatives to the utilization of animals in research. Then, in collaborative groups, students will discuss their findings and choose their position, pro or con. These positions will be debated and then be posted in the forum. 

The on line forum allows access from  members of one school and other schools, as well as the participation of other parties that are interested in this topic of discussion.

There may not be clear cut answers to the issues related to the use of animals for scientific research.  It is the intent of this project for students to become aware of and understand the current practices, laws, ethics, and alternatives that pertain to the issues.

Moreover, this project  will provide students with the opportunity to take an active part in thinking about improvements or solutions that may resolve some of the issues related to the utilization of animals in scientific research.
