   PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Waste-to-Energy

Students will partner with Montenay Power Plant representatives to study the process of waste-to-energy its implications to the local economy, ecology and environment.  §Montenay Power Plant (Doral, FL) is a leader in waste-management facilities.  It covers all aspects of waste-to-energy management, including collection, hauling, recycling and composting; plant design, construction and operations; and ash treatment technologies.

Students will be engaged in data collection and data analysis.  At the end of the project, students are expected to quantify the effect of waste management using mathematical models.  §Students should develop skills in data manipulation and data presentation (graphs, charts).  Extensive use of technology will be required.

Presentation:  WASTE

"Waste-to-Energy plants are the future, and the entire concept is so radical that we are not shocked it works at all.  It probably wasn't thought to be possible to gain energy off our waste?  One thing for sure, whomever dreamt this concept up was definitely being productive."  Group Members
