MOVING TOWARD A COMMON GOAL:  READING EXIT EXAMS?
By Marcia Cassidy

More than a year ago, the Reading and Curriculum Committee met to begin a process of compiling and piloting a set of items that would measure exit competencies for Readings 4, 5 and 6 in the EAP program.

Since 2005, test items and passages have been gathered from TOEFL, SAT, ACT and CPT Exams.  Some passages were adapted to meet the approximate Readability  Levels for our courses.

The following is a timeline of activities in the process:

2006-1:
2005-3:

2005-2:

Paper tests were distributed to full-time and adjunct professors of reading courses
(Kendall Campus only)  Tests were hand-graded and cumulative scores obtained

2006-2:

Items further edited and refined by committee members
Extended piloting of alternate items (multi-campus)
Alternate items and passages selected for phase 2 in order to create test bank
Piloted in limited courses (Kendall Campus only)
Tests input into WebCT to obtain item analysis and discrimination statistics
