    EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Ph.D., Teaching and Learning Mathematics, University of Miami, 1992

M.S., Mathematics Education, Nova Southeastern University, 1982

B.A., Mathematics Education, George Washington University, 1975

    EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Nothing in the world can take the place of PERSISTENCE.

Talent will not.  Nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.

Genius will not.  Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not.  The world is full of educated derelicts.

PERSISTENCE and DEDICATION alone are omnipotent.

The slogan PRESS ON has solved, and will continue to solve, the problems of the human race.   -Calvin Coolidge

Teachers open the door.  But you must enter by yourself.

    CURRENT PROJECTS
Writing to Teach and Learn Mathematics
As the result of a three-year project, funded by the National Science Foundation, (transactional) writing has been shown to positively affect attitude and achievement in mathematics.

Error Analysis
The learning process does not stop with a test.  Mistakes are valuable opportunities to continue to improve student learning.  Students' ability to suspect, detect, correct, and cope with error is extremely important.

Service Learning
Mentor Pairs immediately become involved, and take ownership, in the development of their knowledge.  This project promotes successful test-taking and increases the likelihood of passing the course.

    INTERESTS

I enjoy praising God from whom ALL blessings flow, reading inspirational and motivational materials, watching (old) movies, traveling, spending time with my family (especially my grandson, Julian), and shopping!
