Model Friends

Everyone has friends, but not all friends are the same. Usually, a person has three types of friends: steadfast friends, fair-weather friends, and acquaintances.

First, steadfast friends are the best friends. Usually, these are relationships which endure for long periods of time. Best friends are there in good times and in bad times. Usually, best friends can be confided in an are trustworthy with secrets.

Next, there are fair-weather friends or just pals. These are friends which are more casual than those of a best friend. Fair-weather friends are your friends when good things are happening, such as a party. But when you need help or are in some sort of difficulty, they are no where to be found. That’s why they are termed fair-weather friends. When the sun is out, they are your best friends. When it gets cloudy, they are not reliable friends and will disappear. In addition, with fair-weather friends, your confidences with them will not remain secret, but will be shared with others you do not know.

Finally, most of our relationships involve acquaintances or colleagues. These are people that we interact with, usually in a business situation, but may at times socialize with them. Some acquaintances can become quite close and make the transition to become best friends. Others can move to the fair-weather friend category. However, most remain just that—acquaintances.
