My Background and Interests
Lara Cahill-Booth is an Associate Professor in the English and Communications Department (MDC, Kendall), where she teaches World Literature, American Literatures, Creative Writing and Composition. A lifelong dedication to tracing her Cuban roots/routes across time and space has inevitably situated her in Miami, where she initially moved for a job in non-profit arts administration before completing a PhD in Caribbean Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Miami. Her interest in human geography, performativity, and the poetics of place runs through her scholarly publications, digital projects, zine-making, and inquiry-based teaching. Her scholarship on Caribbean literature and performing arts has been published in TDR: The Drama Review, e-misférica, and Journal of Postcolonial Literature. She is the creator|facilitator of the collaborative digital humanities initiative Everything Speaks To Me (everythingspeakstome.com) and is currently working on a book about Jamaica’s National Dance Theater Company. In the classroom, she aims to inspire students’ intellectual creativity and confidence while helping them develop practical skills for a fulfilling life that includes work. She critically and uncritically enjoys dance, performance, and exercise as well as manages an unruly family of boys.
