Symbolic Connections

Many traditions associate the north with winter, a season of inward movement, wisdom, midnight, death/life.

Living in South Florida where our winters are mild and sometimes imperceptible, north can take different associations. Ours is a subtropical climate.  Instead of experiencing a deep winter, we move through dry and wet periods.  Winter mostly correlates to the dry season.

Themes to Explore

1.   Dryness: Outward and physical manifestations as well as inward and hidden ones.  This is the time when many plants slow their growth and focus their energy on their roots. The gift of dryness has something to do with rootedness.  This is a theme that can be explored at length.

2.   Abundance/Scarcity:  The dry season is one of paradox.  The scarcity of water allows for fish and wildlife to concentrate in alligator watering holes.  Birds begin their nesting because of the readily available food supply…This is a powerful and soulful theme.  How does one relate to abundance and scarcity? How does one move from one to the other?
