Grading System:         Final grade for this laboratory will be determined as follows:


Attendance and punctuality ------------------ 20 points

Quizzes (4) ------------------------------------- 80 points (20 points each)


Content of the exams are based on the Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory Manual.  A passing grade will be 70% or more. 


Final Grade will be determined according to the following scale:    


A         90-100             C         70-79                   F     0-59

B         80-89               D         60-69            


Students will be able to obtain the final grade by checking MyMDC account at the end of the semester. 


Incomplete Grades:  Incomplete grades will be given in consultation with the student and upon agreement of the instructor only when extenuating circumstances have prevented the student from completing the course.  In order to be considered for an “I”, a student must have successfully completed a minimum of one-half the work in the course with a minimum grade of C or better.  The incomplete grades must be completed during the time agreed upon between the instructor and the student.  If not completed by the agreed time, the incomplete grade becomes an F. 

Withdrawals:  The instructor is not required to withdraw/drop students from the course.  It is the student’s responsibility to determine his/her status in the course at all time. 

Attendance Policy:    


*      Students must attend all scheduled laboratory classes


*      Students are responsible to actively participate in their weekly student-centered labs.


*      No make-up exam  will be given for absences or arriving late to class, as these will become

dropped quizzes.


*      The instructor reserves the right to drop any student who has missed 3 lab classes.


*      Students need to bring headsets with them to all Labs.

Important Notice: 

This syllabus explains the policy of this course.  Not reading it thoroughly might result in the students’ not knowing the rules and orientations to take advantage of the activities designed to create a good learning environment.  The right behavior to be successful will depend on your mastering the content of this syllabus.  Therefore, we strongly advise reading it CAREFULLY and frequently. 


Laboratory Policy:

Students are expected to be prepared before the lab sessions by completing all reading assignments for a particular class date.   At the beginning of the laboratory period, the instructor will explain what you are to do so that you can complete the exercise (s) on your own.  Please pay attention and ask questions if you are confused.  Not reading your laboratory manual/textbook will waste valuable time for you, fellow students, and the instructor.  Laboratory will begin on time.  The instructor only has to be there during the scheduled lab hours.  Students will also be responsible for cleaning up after lab.  You may come to the lab to review the models if you talk with the lab manager and agree on a day and time with him to do so.


Attendance:  Attendance to the laboratory sessions is mandatory.  Being absent will result in loss of points and this fact will affect the total course grade.  Being late three times will lead to the loss of 0.5 point in attendance, which also affect the total course grade.  Attendance will be checked during every scheduled laboratory session.  Any absence means that the student is not in the laboratory practicing, and learning.  Not staying for the whole lesson is equal to be absent that day.  The effect is the same whether the student is hospitalized, attending a funeral, or just enjoying a day that seemed too nice to be wasted on attending lab.  The only case to have an excused absence will be when the student has been hospitalized, which MUST be proven by showing the medical document stating the fact.  Any extenuating circumstances will be dealt with on an individual basis, but the instructor has the right either to justify or not the situation based on a personal criterion.  The instructor can request withdrawal or assign a failing grade (F) for students with three undocumented absences.  The student must keep track of his/her individual absences so that he/she knows when he/she is about to be dropped out by the instructor.

In class daily discussions and analysis of the human body and its parts.

Unit/lecture discussion and class activities and lab practices.

In class and homework assignments -Identifying the body part and their relationship with each other and with the human body as a whole.

Video Discussions –The Human Body-.  Analyzing how different cultures appreciate and study the human body. 


6.      Create strategies that can be used to fulfill persona, civic, and social responsibilities.


Ongoing classroom discussions to understand the role of the professionals who work with the human body in all dimensions.  Provoke debates that reinforce the social responsibilities of professionals in the medical field and their impact in society. 


7.      Demonstrate knowledge of ethical thinking and its application to issues in society.


All unit and lectures.  Discuss real live examples of ethical issues that impact society and transform our world. 


8.      Use computer and emerging technologies effectively.


Access to all course materials online.  Ongoing communication via e-mail thru College e-mail.  Electronic presentations and lab practices. 


9.      Demonstrate an appreciation for aesthetics and creative activities


Motivate students to visit museums and exhibitions related to the Human Body.  Encourage students to participate in volunteer activities in the community and participate in internship programs. 


10.  Describe how natural systems function and recognize the impact of humans on the environment.


Utilize the human body as the perfect example of a system and how it works.  Always bring and request examples about how everything we do impact the well living of the human body.  All course activities are directed towards meeting this outcome.
