The   student   will   use   supra-segmental   (e.g.,   rhythm,   stress, intonation)   and   extra-linguistic features  to  convey precise meanings. He/she will   use   formal and   informal   language   (persuasion, negotiation,   debate,   etc.) tailored   to specific   audiences   and contextual settings. The   student   will   be   able   to   adjust   listening   strategies according   to   the   complexity   and   content   of   the   task at hand. The   student   will   demonstrate   the   following   analytical listening   skills:

• Distinguish between  fact   and   opinion.

• Evaluate   the   credibility   and   argumentation   of   the   speech.

• Interpret   a   speaker's   purpose,   point   of   view, tone,  or  use of figurative   language.

Self introduction

Level 6 students will videotape  a self introduction, which will be transferred to the ePortfolio together with student text/s prepared earlier.  The text and the speech will be evaluated by the instructor. Since it will be the first exercise at the end of the semester, the instructor will be able to recognize and assess what progress, if any, was made by the student.

When a student presents the last assignment, the power point presentation, based on the audio lecture in the tutorial called Can 8, said student will take notes while listening to the recorded speech by the professional native speaker. After completion of this task, the student will research the topic to collect more information from books, magazine and/or Internet articles. Before creating the Power Point Presentation, he/she will write a paragraph about the topic and present it to the instructor. The article written will comply with the APA rules of academic writing. To help the student achieve that goal, he/she will be exposed/ introduced to academic writing rules.

The Power Point Presentation

Students will have the opportunity to work with the elements of public speech, and to learn how to modulate their voices using the camcorder microphone.  The chosen topic for the presentation is the destruction of the ancient city of Pompeii, based on the audio lecture from the textbook Intermediate Listening Comprehension,  will enhance the student’s  listening and note taking skills.

Research on the Web will increase student’s knowledge not only of subject matter, but also of Power Point as a tool for illustrating and enhancing a presentation. The last slide on Power Point will be the reference page, where student will list all the scientific sources of the presentation, observing APA guidelines. The presentation will be installed on ePortfolio,  and during the presentation  the student will be videotaped. The video clip will be installed on ePortfolio for the  final evaluation and feedback from the instructor.
