1.     MDC North Campus School of Advanced Studies (SAS) has been authorized to open a Teaching Arts Academy for approximately 25 mathematics and Science students beginning in the fall of 2004 or term 20041.

2.     Students enrolled in this program will be afforded the opportunity to complete their high school diploma and earn their Associate of Arts degree at the same time, taking all of their courses at MDC North.

3.     Students admitted to the academy will be required to complete their B.Sc. in Education degree in science or mathematics in the MDC School of Education.

4.     Tuition and books will be paid for each student from a variety of funding sources.

5.     Identified high school sophomores, juniors and seniors (50) will form a dual enrollment (DE) cohort to take college courses in advanced math and science subjects with the understanding that they will enroll in MDC as education majors and will matriculate through the A.A and BSc. in Education programs.  Their college tuition and books will be paid for through a variety of funding sources provided they agree to enroll in the BachelorÕs program.

6.     Identified SAS and DE cohort students will be afforded the opportunity to take the practice CPT at MDC North or if practicable at designated high school campuses equipped with the technology to make this possible on or before June 9, 2004.

7.     Attendees at this meeting will provide Professor McNair lists of identified SAS and DE students ASAP

8.     Professor McNair will communicate with each member of this group regarding dates to schedule testing at the College or at the school site for the practice CPT and/or the actual CPT, plans to remediate candidates who require remediation, and a script to standardize the information given to students and parents with regard to recruitment.

9.     Attendees at this meeting will comprise an ad hoc committee to achieve these purposes and wil remain in regular communication until recruitment goals are realized.

10.  Many thanks to Dr. Gallon and his staff for the wonderful reception (which included breakfast) and the opportunity to hold this meeting at Miami Northwestern.
