TOPIC

Compare OR contrast two musicians or two bands

MATERIALS:  loose leaf paper, blue or black ink pens only (papers written in pencil will not be read) No notes or handouts

SCORING:  see rubric (you have been given a copy)

Suggestions

1. Brainstorm 5 minutes

2. Outline your essay

3. Then begin writing (remember to indent each paragraph, don't skip lines and don't write on back)

4. After you have written your essay, proofread and edit

   • spelling (use dictionary)

   • sentences (run-ons, comma splices and fragments)

   • grammar (subject-verb agreement, tense shift, pronouns, noun plurals, wrong words, word choice)

   • REMEMBER TO USE ACTIVE VERBS

5. Staple your essay and submit ( Do not include the brainstorm or the outline)
