COLLEGE ALGEBRA
TEXTBOOK: Sullivan COLLEGE ALGEBRA
Prerequisite: MAT 0024 AND MAT 1033 OR PASSING GRADE IN ALGEBRA PLACEMENT TEST.
Course Description: The course addresses the basic concepts of algebra. Topics include inequalities, functions, quadratic equations, systems of equations, determinants, Cramer's rule, logarithms and progressions.
Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. More than two unexcused absences will lower your final grade several points. Any student with more than five unexcused absences might be dropped from the course for nonattendance.
Grading: Your grade will consist of the numerical average of all the tests, homework and final examination There will be several tests and a final examination Tests will count 60%; the lowest test grade will be dropped. The final examination will count 30% and homework 10%.
Grade is assigned on the
following final average:
A= 90-100
B= 80- 89
C= 70- 79
D= 60- 69
F= Below 60
Homework: Once a section has been explained, and unless specified differently at the end of the class period, it is your responsibility to do "all" the odd number exercises which you will find after the section. Your homework might be collected several times during the semester without previous notice. If you do not have your homework ready, points will be deducted from the 10% assigned to homework. Remember: To learn mathematics, you must do mathematics.
NOTE: No make-up tests or examination will be given. Student will be allowed to drop a test grade. If a student misses more than one test for a valid reason the grade received in the final examination will be used as the test grade. The final examination is a comprehensive examination and no graphing or scientific calculator will be permitted.
