Evaluation

Professors often grade students' work using a chart similar to the one below.  They want to make sure you have followed instructions and have completed all the steps that are necessary for the task they have given you.  Read through this carefully as you do your work, and make sure that you turn in all the necessary documents to your professor.

Introductory Paragraph of Essay

 

 

First paragraph does not create a firm foundation for the essay.  It is weak and lacks creativity.  The thesis does not indicate the direction of the essay. First paragraph lacks a strong thesis statement.  The introduction to the thesis is weak. First paragraph contains a well-developed thesis statement, but the introduction lacks cohesiveness. First Paragraph contains an introduction that attracts the reader and a thesis statement that is clear and interesting. 

 

Body of Essay

 

The body is too short.  The points have not been fully developed. The body contains some good points, but they have not been fully developed. The body contains good points that are well developed. The body  contains good points that are well developed.  Each paragraph leads nicely into the next.

 

Conclusion of Essay
The conclusion contains nothing but a re-statement of the thesis. The conclusion contains a re-statement of the thesis and a few additional sentences which sound repetitive. The conclusion contains a good summary of the essay, but does not come    to a satisfying end. The conclusion contains an insightful summary/ analysis of the  content, and readers recognize immediately that the essay is complete.
 

Grammar and Structure

 

Student is using only simple sentences.  There are mistakes in spelling and grammar, and there are no transitions. Student is using simple sentences, but the spelling and grammar are strong.  There are a few transitions. Student is using complex (at level) sentence structures, but making mistakes in grammar and spelling.  Student is using transitions. PowerPoint Presentation Student made an attempt to incorporate the PP presentation, but  created less than 5 slides. Student created a PP presentation, but didn't incorporate the 10 images that were assigned. Student incorporated the 10 images that were assigned, but nothing more. Student incorporated 10 images in the PP presentation and put them in a creative setting or order.
