Process
Make a PowerPoint Presentation
Have you ever made a presentation using Microsoft's PowerPoint? If you can use Microsoft Word, you have the skills necessary to create a PowerPoint presentation.
Some students may already have a lot of experience with PP Presentations.
For those of you who don't, print out these directions, and use them to help you with your project.
1. Open Microsoft's PowerPoint program on your computer.
2. Choose "Blank Presentation."
3. Choose the first slide in Auto Layout. This is the "Title Slide."
4. Click inside the box and write a title. Write your name as the subtitle.
5. You've created your first slide. Now let's save what you've done so far. Click on "File" and "Save As". Save your file somewhere on your computer where you'll be able to easily find it again. (The PP presentation will take up a lot of space, so you probably won't be able to put it on a diskette.)
6. In the toolbar at the top of your page is an icon of a white rectangle with a shining star in the left corner. Click on it to add a new slide.
7. Choose the blank slide as your new Auto Layout.
8. Go to "Insert" in the menu bar on top and select "Picture" and "From File".
9. Go to the location on your computer where you've saved example paintings by Gauguin and VAn Gogh. Choose the first painting you want to put in your presentation. Then click "Insert."
10. If it's the wrong size, you can adjust it by dragging the little white squares in the corners of the picture. Don't touch the other squares, or you'll distort the image.
11. Keep creating new slides and adding images until you have complete the requirement of 5 images for each artist. Notice that you can add your notes at the bottom. You'll be able to uses the notes when you show your presentation.
12. Near the bottom left corner of your screen, there is a group of five icons. They represent the five different views.
| The first one is the one you've been
working on -- "Normal View." |
|
| The second one in an outline view. |
|
| The third is a slide view. |
|
| The fourth is the slide sorter where
you can change the slides around by clicking and dragging -- very
useful! |
|
| The fifth is the slide show. If you want to exit the slide show while you are in it, right click and choose "end show." |
13. Before you give your presentation, print out your nots pages so you have something to help you talk about each slide. (Just follow the directions after you click on "Print.")
14. There are countless ways to improve a PowerPoint presentation, but this basic format is enough to satisfy the requirement for this assignment. Work with your friends and teachers to learn about other things you can do in PowerPoint.
