What is Smarthinking? |
Smarthinking is an online tutoring service that has been retained by Miami-Dade College, Medical Center Campus, to help students access one-on-one help in math, writing, chemistry, and statistics from any computer with an internet connection. The funds for this service were obtained through a Title V Grant from the United States Department of Education (Project MÁS).
Students who register with Smarthinking can:
Get help from an e-structor (a tutor) synchronously (live) by typing questions on an electronic "whiteboard". Math tutors are available 24/7 during major semesters; tutors in other subjects are available at designated hours.
Submit writing assignments for review. The turn-around time is usually less than 24 hours.
Check the e-structor schedule and log into a session with a specific e-structor. As soon as the e-structor is available, he or she helps the student.
Reserve a tutoring session in a specific area at a specific time.
Ask a question asynchronously. An e-structor will usually answer in less than 24 hours. (Students are notified by email when this feedback is available.)
Use online resources for help in writing, math, and study skills.
Print out and review all sessions.
To see a demonstration of the services available through Smarthinking, click Demo. (You will have to download Flash in order to play these demos.)
As a student at the Medical Center Campus, you can easily obtain a user name and password to access Smarthinking. Please take your paid schedule to the Student Success Center, Room 1303, and ask for initial log-in information.
